AUK CONTRAIRE is a semi-quarterly zine published through The Auk's Roost. Featuring poetry, art, essays, stories, comics, activity pages, music, video, recipes, and a whole lot of collages.

Each issue has a distinct theme that is interpreted in different ways by contributors. The magazines are featured here on the website as well as in 100 paper copies.

 

Submissions of art, poetry, essays, stories, comics, photos, recipes, music, video (will be published as a QR link in the book), etc. are accepted. Existing and new work both accepted.

Some details: 
-The zine will be 5.5 x 4.25 inches
-stitched spine
-black and white
-color cover
-artists will attributed and maintain copyright of their creative work
-included contributors will get a copy of the zine, others will be given away with a suggested donation of $0-5 (to cover printing costs)

THE PROCESS:

-Call for art is posted based around a central theme

-Available regulars at The Auk's Roost get together and read/look at submissions aloud and choose which ones will be featured in the issue (participants are not allowed to discuss or choose their own submissions), this group will also choose the next issue's theme

-Mock-layout done and printed

-Available regulars will get together at The Auk's Roost to collage empty space on pages 

-Pages are scanned in and printed out, cut, stitched with cardstock covers

-Release party will be held and issues mailed out to far-away contributors
